The Broadcom BCM5709S network install of Solaris 10 5/08 needs both pre-install and post-install workarounds to overcome bnx driver support issues and blade hang issues.These workarounds are summarized below. For detailed instructions on how to install the system, see:
http://wikis.sun.com/display/BigAdmin/IBM+LS42+Blade+Server+Installation+Workaround
1) The pre-install workaround involves patching the miniroot with patch 137112-04 and add a new bnx driver version 4.4.3(BRCMbnx). Before installing the new bnx driver, remove the old one with 'rem_drv bnx' command.
2) Add -kd to the grub menu.
During the network boot when the system goes to kmdb prompt type in the following:
::bp pcie`_init
:c
pcie_error_disable_flag/W 1
:c
3) The post-install workaround is to add patch 137112-04 , package BRCMbnx v4.4.3, and add "set pcie:pcie_error_disable_flag=1" to /etc/system to make the fix permanent after the install but before the system is rebooted.
